The Art of Tarot - Sundays 10/20 - 11/24

The Tarot is a wisdom language, a mystery teaching, and a portal to communication from the unseen realms. It is a tool for self-awareness as well as a method for making sense of events and circumstances in the world around us. It is both spiritual and secular, addressing multiple layers of our lives and affairs.

There is so much information out there about tarot, lots of great books, decks, websites, and resources. Fortunately, more and more people are growing interested in this form of narrative divination. But it takes a certain sacred approach to really be a reader. It’s not just about literary card meanings, occult symbolism, and cool spreads. It’s about listening, being willing to take a leap of faith, knowing the difference between your intuition and your fear, and caring about the story that is sitting in front of you waiting to be told. All of us can read books about tarot, or read card meanings in the pamphlets that come with our decks. But do you feel confident as a reader? Would you like to learn to be one, or to deepen your skills?

I have been a professional tarot reader since 2003, and in that time I have performed over 10,000 readings for clients from all over the world. I first offered readings on the phone, by word of mouth only, when I lived in Berkeley, CA. After about a year of that, I began inviting clients to come to my home for readings. Then, I moved into an office with two other people and read for clients there. Eventually, I opened my own shop, which is now in Dunsmuir, CA at the base of Mt Shasta. I’ve read in noisy bars at 3am, on subway trains for strangers, in coffee shops, at wedding and baby showers, and at peoples’ deathbeds. I still read for some of the same clients that have been with me since 2003, and I’ve met many, many wonderful people over a cup of tea and a tarot reading, each of whom holds a place in my heart.

I am a story-teller and a story-keeper. I am a reader. It is one skill that, like wine and cheese, gets better with age and experience. I’d like to host a next-level class for people who want to be readers, or who want to be better readers. Since the last time I taught this course, I’ve changed my life completely, lost a parent, and have been married for 6 years. I have more to offer than I did the last time I taught this, and I’m looking forward to sharing it with the right group of people. You know if it’s you: a hunger to feel, even for a moment, that thing you cannot ever fully comprehend, a fascination with the human condition, a deep love for helping, a willingness to look directly at all possibilities with candor, a big heart.

In this series of 6 classes, I will help you build a strong bone structure as a reader. In each class, you will learn a unique tarot spread, as well as having a close look at one suit of the deck and its wisdom. Every class will feature exercises to strengthen both your intuition and your confidence, and will leave you with follow-up exercises to sharpen your abilities and understanding.

Oct. 20: Introduction to our class view of divination, building trust in our intuition, beginning to develop a relationship with your tarot deck (everyone will need their own deck of 78 standard cards)

Oct 27: The Major Arcana: the Fool’s Journey, readings for major transitions, readings that tell a story, readings that change your life

Nov 3: Suit of Swords: the problems that threaten to destabilize us, the powers of intellect and reason, how to help a suspicious, closed-off, or crying client, coping with our shadows in the cards

Nov 10: Suit of Wands: the challenges that help us to grow, the powers in the body and in the animal senses, how to build warmth and kindness into your readings without compromising your truth-telling

Nov 17: Suit of Cups: the worlds of emotion and dream, fine-tuning your ability to listen deeply, working with clients in matters of the heart, relationships, and family

Nov 24: Suit of Pentacles: glorious terra firma beneath us, the lessons of stability, gratitude, and patience, helping clients make good choices, and business ethics/best practices for readers

All classes will be from 4-6pm Pacific time.
Local students as well as distance students are welcome. All students will receive access to a recording of each class that they can download to watch whenever they wish.
Fee: $15 per class, or $75 for all 6 classes
Location: The Sacred Well, 5816 Dunsmuir Ave, Dunsmuir, CA. Giving us an RSVP would be helpful so that we can plan for chairs and tables. Call us at (530) 500-5935. If you are at a distance, please have your card ready to pay for your classes and give us your email address so I can invite you to the Zoom video conference.

Music IS the Medicine.

Come, bring yourself with you. Whether you think you can sing or were told to just "move your lips" in class when you were young, you can feel safe to open up in this Circle.

There will be songbooks with lyrics. The songs are simple and easily learned—collected circlesongs and many brought through by Copperwoman.

In her own words, about Kahuna Leilani’s journey to Goddess:

The Goddess has been calling to me all my life. The Hawaiian culture is filled with spirituality and respect for the ancestral realm and I was to have a deep aloha/love for the land of Hawai’i.

Becoming a Mother was a Rite of Passage for me. On July 16, 1990, I entered the sacred realm of Mothering. The joy from my daughter Jade’s birth along with the huge demands of motherhood sent my whole world into chaos. As a feminist, I thought at the time that career, education and success reflected in the “outer” male dominated world was more desirable. How humbled I was to learn that being a mother is the hardest job there is, and yes, the most potently powerful!

The next event that propelled me full force toward Her/the Goddess was my mother’s death from cancer, July 10, 1994. She was 54. My mom instilled in me the love of community and family from Our Hawaiian culture. Raised as Hapa- Haole (the term for part Hawaiian and part Caucasian) in the Mainland I learned the beauty, joy, and honor of being a brown skinned daughter of the islands of Hawai’i. My mother taught her children the importance of community, family, and love and the “Aloha Spirit” a revered cultural attributes of our Hawaiian culture. I was devastated by the loss of her physical presence.

After my mother died the Moon beckoned me as a beacon of light, comfort and wisdom. My mother Judy, had always been such a source of wisdom and strength Her parting was unbearably painful for me. My journey to the Goddess from this point on was a calling that I could not deny.

I could feel Her/Goddess summoning me towards Her loving presence. Grief and inner turmoil tore at my soul while I struggled to unblock, understand and free the huge energy I felt trying to come through me. To channel my energies I began to read books about the Goddess authored by Luisah Teish, Z Budapest and Vicki Noble.

I had a reading with Vicki Noble four months after my mom died. She told me about the Womyn’s Spirituality Master’s program at CIIS (which moved to New College) of which I graduated with a Masters in Womyn’s Spirituality. My first class with Vicki was titled Womyn Healers. Within this circle/class there were 25 of the most amazing womyn Healers, Astrologer, Midwives, Teachers, Mothers, Nurses, Executives all coming together to honor the Goddess, the Sacred Feminine. The energy was electric and transformative; finally I was home again. Our sacred class was focused on finding ways to re-piece and re-claim the womyn’s Mysteries of Old. My life from this point on was changed forever.

Summer Solstice 1996 I founded a womyn’s ceremonial circle named Daughters of the Goddess. It has evolved from a small circle of friends into a Womyn’s temple that is open to the community and serves womyn mainly from the San Francisco Bay Area, although we have had womyn from all over the world circle with us. I started the circle because I had a burning desire and passion to reach as many womyn as I could to share the Goddess with. Thus I began my commitment to womyn’s mysteries and the ancestors who call me to their service. August of 1998 I was Ordained as a Dianic High Priestess by Z. Budapest a the Goddess 2000 Womyn’s Festival in La Honda, CA was an honor and a reflection of my inner calling.

All I have learned from the classes, my teachers and ancestor spur me forth to share the forgotten and lost knowledge that is so powerful and that can become a vehicle for womyn to move together in Sisterhood. Our Fore-mothers left legacies for us to inherit. It is our right and blessing to join together to reclaim, preserve and perpetuate the traditions and ceremonies of our ancestors. I am here as a Priestess of the Goddess to provide community, the Aloha Spirit and a space for womyn’s Mysteries to continue onward as our legacy, honor and birthright.

Tarot and the Taliswoman- Memorial Day Weekend

Tarot and the Taliswoman is a weekend journey of creativity for a small group of women who are interested in expressing the divine feminine through goddess art, tarot, and 3-dimensional collage. For two beautiful days, your instructors Jessica and Yeshe will take you on an exploration of the Fool's Journey using the visual imagery of the Tarot deck.

In the mornings, we will practice the art of divination and cartomancy, listening to our intuition and connecting with our inner guidance. After a break for lunch, in the afternoons we will create intriguing blessing beads made of paper, silk, and wax adding intention, texture, and intrigue. Our assemblage will culminate in each woman constructing her own personal Taliswoman using a clay face, beads, jewelry findings, gemstones, and the Major Arcana of her own design.

Are you an Empress? A High Priestess? The Moon? Or is there an archetype you've been wanting to bring forth, such as The Gardener, The Mother of Wisdom, or some other unique expression? All supplies are provided, although you are invited to bring any special beads, baubles, or ribbon to attach to your 3-dimensional collage.

No art or divination experience is required. This workshop will be hosted by The Sacred Well, 5816 Dunsmuir Ave, Dunsmuir.

To register, please call The Sacred Well (530)500-5935, or click here.

Invoking the Healer Within: Wesak Full Moon 5/18

May 18 is the Scorpio Full Moon, and it is Wesak: the celebration of the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha. With powerful planetary alignments taking place that day, Mount Shasta Astrologer Glenn Kaufmann (born on a New Moon in Scorpio) and Priestess Yeshe Matthews of the Mt Shasta Goddess Temple (born on a Full Moon in Scorpio) have prepared a powerful journey for an intimate group of individuals who are ready to step into their sacred roles as healers for the planet and the people thereof. Under this Full Moon, love and passion change everything, and the healing energy that is available during this time is life-changing. To become the healers we are meant to be is not only our birthright, it is our duty for the benefit of all beings.

The flow of the day:

8:30am: We will gather at 620 South Mt Shasta Boulevard in Mount Shasta, CA and begin our day with a sound bath and meditation during the inspirational and very significant Venus/Uranus conjunction at 9:00am, when the celestial energies will be perfect for receiving the touch of the divine.

10:00am: Glenn will offer a detailed look at the astrological potency of the day, the healing themes and opportunities we will be exploring, and how the activities of this day will repeat, and play out, over the next 7 years in our lives and around the planet.

11:00am-12:30pm: Break for lunch. Bring your own to enjoy in the garden or visit one of the many delicious local restaurants, most within walking distance.

1pm-2pm: Yeshe will offer an interactive presentation about several diverse Healer archetypes, discussing the skills, tools, and activities that are associated with each: the Midwife, the Energy Worker, the Counselor, the Shaman, the Doctor, and the Angel of Change.

2pm-4pm: The group will workshop our natal charts and discuss the ways in which our individual astrological and personal strengths might help determine what type of healer we were born to become. Planetary transits and triggers that activate the Healer in each of us, will be discussed for each of the workshop participants. During this lively session, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and discuss visions or intuitive information they have received that have influenced the type of Healer they wish to be, or the ways they want to expand their current offerings as a Healer.

4pm-5:30pm: There will be time for individuals in the group to offer energy trades, to practice deep listening skills, to offer one another brief divinations, and to test out their proficiency with several healing tools in a safe and exploratory space. During this time, Glenn and Yeshe will be available to offer one-on-one guidance and reflection to participants.

5:30pm-7pm: Break for dinner.

7:30pm-9pm: Glenn and Yeshe will host a Full Moon Fire Ceremony during which all participants can invoke and activate the Healer within, through ceremonial acknowledgments of our roles, activities, and unique gifts. Each attendee will be witnessed, and will witness others, in naming and claiming their unique path as a Healer, and will receive affirmation, initiation, and activation to prepare them for their newly-affirmed path as an agent of healing light.

Are you ready to become the Healer you were born to be? Are you ready to make a profound, and lasting change in your life path, that will deeply benefit yourself, and everyone you meet? If this retreat calls to you, please don't delay your registration, as space is limited.

$97 if you register before 5pm on Thursday, May 16th.

13 Days of Ancestor Healing

13 Days of Ancestor Healing

Many of us are familiar with the iconography, pageantry, and excitement that accompany ancestral celebrations of Dia de los Muertos, Egungun festivals, and even homegrown family reunions. Lots of folks annually set up altars for their beloved dead. Are you feeling the need to gaze deeply into the dark mirror of your ancestral lineage and find the wisdom to help you move forward on your own path with mindfulness, reverence, and transformation? This 13-Day practice can help you do that.

When you sign up for this class, you will receive a daily email from Oct 21 until Nov 2, 2018. In each email, you will receive a writing prompt, an assignment, or a technique to use as a way to examine your relationship to your ancestry. Some exercises will bring forth your reverence, others your critical thinking, and yet others will give you space to grieve for what has been lost in your family history. There will be a gamut of activities from reflection to feasting, as well as careful examination of how your ancestry has impacted your life.

Dreaming Priestess Convocation 2020

convocation 1.jpg

In ancient times, when our mother the Earth was held as sacred, and all who lived on her walked gently and spoke softly, we were all singers.

We sang to greet Grandmother Sun and we sang songs of love to our sister the moon.  We sang in pure joy at the sight of a baby dolphin playing with her brothers and sisters and we sang in harmony with our sisters the birds.

We sang with power to aid a sister in birth and we sang with gratitude for a new little one as she took her first breath.

We sang to our crops and gave thanks for the abundance bestowed upon us with the sweetest tones of contentment.

We gathered for the hard times and mingled our voices with our tears when one too young had passed over, or a loved one had to leave us for a long period of time.

Once, long ago, our voices healed as we sang over a sick one to help the Spirit and the body to renew, and we sang for the one who had lost her way and wandered in confusion and anger.

Our voices soared free at the touch of a long awaited raindrop, or the meeting of a new love.  We sang alone, our prayers of love and gratitude and we sang together in the Temple, our joy at being one.

We are all singers, it matters not how we sing, just that we do.

Priestesses will be gathering in Crete from Oct 2-9, 2020, to experience a global convergence, the likes of which this land has not seen in 5000 years. From all over the world, priestesses and their companions and community members will gather to share wisdom, sisterhood, and to roll up our sleeves on behalf of Mother Earth and the MotherWorld.

Denver Gem Show!

The Denver Gem Show approaches! We will be traveling to Denver Sept 7-9 to visit with miners and merchants from all over the world, hand-picking specimens to carry in our shop and online. We seek out small, family-owned companies, and we have relationships going back ten years with some of them.

IMG_20180201_152245.jpg

The crystals and gems we bring into our shop have to FEEL right, have to be full of life, have to reflect the kind of vibe we want at every level of our energetic transactions.  We want the miners to feel good about their relationship with the Earth and their workers, we want to feel good about purchasing the stones at fair prices, and we want our customers to feel good about buying their perfect crystal companions. To that end, we keep our business relationships strong, our dealings direct, and our prices low compared to the high quality of our stock. We've been in this business for a long time, and we believe that process is more important than profit. It feels good to make an honest living while helping others do the same.

We're thankful for all of the connections we have with our customers nationwide, and we would love to help you find your special stone, piece of jewelry, or cabochon when we go to the Denver Gem Show. If you would like us to personally shop for you, please fill out the form below. We will text you with options as we travel, so you have choices whenever possible. And when we get back, we will ship your stone to you!

Aug 30: Magu Altar Building

Join Yeshe to pack up our August Isis altar and install our new altar for September in connection with the Mt Shasta Goddess Temple

Our September altar is dedicated to Magu, the Chinese Taoist Immortal who created the elixir of life with cannabis and white wine. Her name is comprised of two characters: Ma and Gu, which depict hemp plants hanging to dry in a shed, and the syllable for "priestess," "nun," "great-aunt," or "elder woman." In myth, she has a tiger's tail and long, curling fingernails. She is Xiamanic, timeless, and complex: a mystery goddess of nature, herbs, and astronomy.

All are welcome to this altar-building event, free of charge.

Isis Altar Building

"I am Nature, the universal Mother, mistress of all the elements, primordial child of time, sovereign of all things spiritual, queen of the dead, queen also of the immortals, the single manifestation of all gods and goddesses that are. My nod governs the shining heights of Heaven, the wholesome sea-breezes the lamentable silences of the world below. Though I am worshipped in many aspects, known by countless names, and propitiated with all manner of different rites, yet the whole round earth venerates me. The primeval Phrygians call me Pessinuntica, Mother of the gods; the Athenians, sprung from their own soil, call me Cecropian Artemis; for the islanders of Cyprus I am Paphian Aphrodite; for the archers of Crete I am Dictynna; for the trilingual Sicilians, Stygian Proserpine; and for the Eleusinians their ancient Mother of the Corn.

Some know me as Juno, some as Bellona of the Battles; others as Hecate, others again as Rhamnubia, but both races of Ethiopians, whose lands the morning sun first shines upon, and the Egyptians who excel in ancient learning and worship me with ceremonies proper to my godhead, call me by my true name, namely, Queen Isis."

Join Yeshe and members of the Mt Shasta Goddess Temple on Saturday, Aug 11 at 6pm to build an altar to ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis, Goddess of August in the Temple. We will be making "wishing boats" from natural materials that will sit on the altar for the month of August, and at the end of the month we will sail the boats on the McCloud River.

This event is free and open to all.

The Witch's Garden: Crystal Facial Tonic

The Witch's Garden is a series of monthly classes offered by herbalist Yeshe Matthews. Tracing folklore, family recipes, and wisdom from those who came before us, this group takes on the responsibility of keeping the simple ways of natural healing alive. Together, we study, share, and craft recipes for tonics, liniments, teas, tinctures, and baths, among other, more esoteric methods. Our monthly gathering is an opportunity to learn new recipes and methods in a hands-on way, while communing with other Earth-lovers, herb gardeners, and self-healers.

July 12, 7pm
This month's topic: Crystal Facial Tonic

During this hands-on class, each participant will make a cooling, soothing skincare spray using all-natural ingredients. These spritzes will help you get through the hot days and cool you off as you sit out on the sun-baked earth watching the night for shooting stars. Each spray will include crystal chips to help you bring the energies of the stones and their properties into your self-care routine.
Cost: $20 (includes gathering plus all materials)

Instructor: Yeshe Matthews has been a folk herbalist for over 20 years, beginning with a personal study of Culpepper's Complete Herbal, later becoming a student of Rosemary Gladstar. She has been a frequent teacher at the Northern California Women's Herbal Symposium, as well as offering her Witch's Garden classes for over a decade to students in the Bay Area.

Baba Yaga Altar Building

The Sacred Well is the sponsor of the Mt Shasta Goddess Temple, a living mandala of devotional activity for the divine feminine in her many forms. In our shop, we host a large altar created by the Temple, which features a new face of the goddess each month.

In July, the Mt Shasta Goddess Temple is honoring Baba Yaga, the Bone Mother of Slavic myth. She is the  tipping point between medicine and poison. She is the wild and untamable one who cackles with abandon as she crosses the sky in her mortar, steering with her pestle. She is the last sheaf of wheat or rye or barley left standing in the field.

Join Temple Priestess Yeshe to dismantle June's altar and set up the Baba Yaga altar for the month of July. During our altar building, we will learn more about Baba Yaga, drink a cool herbal tea, and call upon the Bony-Legged One to help us thresh the grain of wisdom from our life lessons.

The event is open to all and free of charge.

Women in White Walk for Peace

On June 30 at 9:30 am, the Mt Shasta Goddess Temple invites women of peace and their harmonious companions to gather at Parker Plaza in Mt Shasta dressed in head-to-toe white clothing and wearing comfortable walking shoes in any color.

We will process from Parker Plaza to City Park in silent contemplation of how we can each bring more peace into our lives and the world. When we arrive at the headwaters of the Sacramento River, we will chant OM MANI PADME HUM in a brief ceremony to the waters for the purpose of offering peace and healing to ourselves, each other, the land, and all of its inhabitants. Afterwards, everyone is welcome to stick around to have lunch together, then we will walk back to town as we wish.

Please bring your own picnic lunch and something to sit on, water bottle, and any comfort items you will need.

If the walk is not possible for you, please arrive at City Park at 10:30 to join in the festivities and luncheon without the walk. Meet near the headwaters. There are seating areas nearby if it is not possible for you to stand during the ceremony.

All over the world, wearing white clothes is a symbol of the sacred. In Nigeria, white cloth is considered an honor to the spirits. In China, white is a color of solemnity and reverence for the dead. In Latin America, wearing white to church or on holy days is respectful. And in the US, white is associated with Spring, the rites of marriage, and the first wave of feminists who opened the door for women to vote. To see a crowd gathered to pray, chant, or honor the divine while wearing white is a visually moving experience. This event is an opportunity for our Temple and surrounding community to create a living, breathing, moving peace painting, to help us all create indelible memories of the commitments we are willing to make to further the cause of peace in the world.

If you have any questions about this event, please message us and we will get back to you. Feel free to share this invitation and join us! No cost to attend, though we will be gathering donations to give to the Winnemem Wintu tribe for their work as water protectors.

Crystal Wisdom Circle

Last Friday of the month, join Yeshe Matthews for the Crystal Wisdom Circle, a gathering of crystal, gem, and mineral enthusiasts who want to know more about the practical and healing uses of crystals. For one hour each month we explore one topic related to crystals, their physical and metaphysical properties, their lore, and their uses in sacred activities and healing. Yeshe has been working with crystals and minerals for over 20 years, and enjoys sharing tips from her personal experience as well as historical research about their uses.

June 29, 7pm
The month's topic: Building Crystal Grids.
For centuries, and across cultures, geometric shapes have been used as a basis for healing and energizing the body, mind, and spirit. From mandalas to labyrinths, these sacred arrays have provided people with beauty fo the eyes and well-being in the spirit. This month, we will create a healing grid to help with bringing forth art, creativity, and new ideas.
Cost: $10

Pop-Up Boutique - Le Salon - Berkeley

SACREDSALON.jpg

Hail Aphrodite! Come get your beauty on at Le Salon in Berkeley on Feb 24 with a Sacred Well pop-up boutique! Yeshe will be offering readings and Albert will have crystals and potions on hand for you to browse and enjoy. We plan to have several of our classic fragrance profiles available, as well as some brand new offerings in our line. We will also be back from the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show with lots of crystals, jewelry, and gem goodies.

If you want to make a day of it, you can schedule kick-ass beauty services with Le Salon owner Tiffany Raylene, a dynamo world-renown hair stylist. Check out her shop philosophy and the photo gallery below, or scroll down to schedule your in-person reading with Yeshe:

Do you miss the days when getting your hair done wasn’t so much like a visit to an impersonal hair factory? We do too! At Le Salon, we want to get back to the original spirit of the French word “salon”—as a “living room” or a place for gathering neighbors. A place where you can kick up your heels and re-paint your day in the blush tones of a chilled glass of rosé. Where you can strike up a conversation with an interesting stranger or catch up with your bestie.  Beyond offering full hair service, we love bridging the gap between beauty, well-being, and bringing people together to create a story of their own.

If you'd like a reading with Yeshe on the 24th, it would be best to schedule ahead of time. Some walk-ins might be available, but don't leave it to chance.
