Have you ever wanted to make a drum? Join us for this class, in which students will work with deer hide, up-cycled bowl hoops, and their creative spirit to make a heart’s song drum. Sarah Heartsong is excited to help you birth your drum with this time-honored art form that spans many cultures!
Some details: There will be a selection of hoops to choose between and between 9"-12" diameter. The entire workshop will be held in sacred space beginning with a Journey to help you know the Spirit of your Drum. You will cut, dye and string your own drum with Heartsong’s help.
Bring healthy snacks to share (if you want).
You will leave with a wet drum and will need to let it dry to get to the final stage where you can hear the true voice of your drum. You can add decorations after the drum has dried. If you decide to dye the hide your hands will probably end up dyed as well. So wear comfy clothes you won't be upset if they get some dye on them. (You probably won't if you are careful, but one never knows, so be warned.)
If you find a good stick to be your drumbeater, bring it along and you can also make a drumbeater if you end up with time. There will be a limited supply of sticks brought and some leather for this project, but it's best to find and make your own if possible.
Times are approximate as we may finish early depending on how long it takes everyone to get through, we will start on time, so please arrive at noon.
